One often debated topic among people wanting to purchase a set of stackable chairs is whether to use plastic or metal. Sure, metal may come to mind as being the better choice, considering it's strong and most likely wont crack under pressure. However, there are some benefits of choosing plastic as well. Today we're going to discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of both plastic and metal chairs.

Metal chairs, as I mentioned, are usually the chair of choice when it comes for seating at large events. This is because they're extremely durable and have a fairly long lifespan. With that said, there is a couple of disadvantages to using them as well. One of them being the price. Sets of metal stacking chairs are typically priced at over $175 for a set of two. If you have a large group of people that need chairs, this number can quickly increase, costing thousands of dollars. Do you really need to spend all of this money for seating? Another disadvantage is that metal chairs tend to be more uncomfortable than plastic stacking chairs. From personal experience, I've found that I cannot seem to last very long sitting on metal chairs because it gives me the feeling that I'm sitting on a rock. Sure, some companies have designed their chairs to fit most people's bottoms, but for the most part, a metal chair will cause a considerable amount of discomfort.

Plastic stack chairs, compared to metal chairs, are much more affordable. You can find these types of chairs in the price range of $125 to $250 for four, depending on where you shop. However, plastic stackable chairs don't have as long of a lifespan. With that said, the usage of the chair and whether they're treated respectfully will have a huge impact on how long it lasts. Another component of plastic chairs is the fact that they're much more flexible than metal ones. This will provide more comfort, and will be less irritating on the tailbone.

In conclusion, choosing between plastic or metal will largely depend on your budget, how often you'll use them, and the weight of the people that will be using them. You don't want to go overboard with spending your money, but you also don't want to go too cheap, considering that injury may result after the fact. Researching each brand is the best thing that you can do. This can be done by reading user reviews, viewing Youtube videos, and going to the store and testing them out yourself.
